New York Fashion Week has just wrapped up and we should be proud of the six Australian designers who made it onto the scene. Designers Josh Goot, Kit Willow-Podgornik, Karen Walker, Jayson Brunsdon, Toni Maticevski and Aurelio Costarella flew the flag for Australia and in plenty of style.
Masculine and feminine were the key trends and clearly showed from day one. Man styled tuxedos permeated runways so too did soft, feminine dresses with ruffles and embellishments.
Toni Maticevski and Aurelio Costarella produced favourite collections of mine out of the Australian talent. Both designers produced an elegant array of pieces with an emphasis on beautiful ethereal pieces.
Toni Maticevski stayed true to his style and the result was an exquisite collection in a gentle palette of white and neutrals. Blazers and micro knits made up the day wear looks whilst his trademark evening wear was a highlight with feminine detailing and drapery, ruffles, and fish tail skirts.
Aurelio Costarella showcased another collection neutral in colour and provided an ode to old world glamour with strong emphasis on corsetry. Costarella also highlighted upon the masculine trend with tuxedo pants and dresses.

If shopping online is your thing, head to thesiteguide.com. An American site run by Patricia Davidson as a tool to "seek out all the best online shops available, put them under one roof and create a service that makes using the internet quicker, easier and more pleasurable to use".
With so many online stores popping up everyday it’s not only hard to keep track, but it’s hard to sort the reliable ones from the not so. The site guide asses each site on its reliability and quality before it gets a mention on the website itself so you can be assured you are buying from quality online retailer. Better still it's listings are divided up into categories like 'At Home', 'Clothing, Accessories and Jewellery' and 'Mother and Child' so its easy to navigate and find exactly what you are looking for.
The downside to the site is that it's a paid subscription based site so it's a nominal fee to get access to all the listings. However if you don't want to sign up they still feature great sites that all visitors can see and these are updated quite regularly.
As mentioned before, it is American based so many of the sites will be American but there is nothing stopping us from purchasing from half way across the world, and each listing shows whether worldwide shipping is offered.
A great site to review from time to time as you are likely to learn about fantastic online stores that are not mainstream, but still filled with great buys. Just another excuse to purchase really.
